We left the hotel and it was freezing. And raining. But we had our Metro map in hand and were determined to go see the Eiffel Tower. We navigated the underground subway and eventually came back above ground to see the Eiffel Tower looming over us. It looked like it was right there so instead of getting a cab we decided to walk. So we walked and we walked and we walked... Needless to say, something so big can look really close when it is truly a very long way away. When we finally got there we were frozen solid, exhausted and to top it all off the Tower portion did not open for another 45 minutes. At that point we settled for walking around the humongous base of the Tower and then happily caught a cab back to our hotel.

Even though our adventure didn't turn our exactly the way we expected it was still wonderful. Walking together through Paris at the crack of dawn before anyone else was around was amazing. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world and that morning it felt like it belonged to us. The above picture is not from our first trip to Paris but our second. Since I spent the 2nd half of our trip in the hotel room the first time around, we were determined to go back and experience all the things we missed. We went back for our 5-year anniversary and actually got to go up in the Tower. I am so glad we did it but honestly, the first time was just as special.
