In the Media

Two things in the media this week have really caught my attention. I generally don't keep up with politics that closely but I have been following the election commentary a bit lately. I guess I tend toward Democratic ideals but I would certainly not classify myself as a Democrat. I like to think of myself as an Independent since I try to evaluate issues on their own based on the facts involved rather than based on the "party line". All this being said, I have watched Hillary and Obama more closely than the Republican candidates. There may be a good option with the Republican group - I just don't know enough about any of them yet.

So ~ Hillary and Obama. I have to say that I am really disappointed that they have already resorted to stereotypical political nastiness. Hillary and Bill in particular seem to be on the attack. My guess would be that they don't like the positive aura that follows Barack Obama around and they are trying to goad him into a fight in order to tarnish it a bit. I realize that Barack has to respond to these attacks but now all the media is focusing on is that the two campaigns are bickering. I don't think that they are doing themselves (or their party) any favors by infighting instead of focusing on the issues. I wish that they could just rise above all of it and focus on a positive message leading up to the election.

Secondly, I have to say that every time I look on the internet and see some new bit of info about Heath Ledger's death I get a little sad. I have always really liked Heath Ledger. I have watched everything he has ever been in and would always look forward to new movies coming out. He was definitely my favorite young actor.

I literally gasped when I heard on the radio that he had died. OK, yes, he was a cutie... but he was a wonderful actor too. I am sad that we won't get to see anymore of his work.
