In case there was any doubt in your mind about the differences between our culture and that of the Middle East simply take a peek at this article about a new law in Afghanistan. The law, which passed last month, states that a wife must have sex with her husband at least every 4 days unless she is sick and also provides guidelines on when women may leave their home (generally consisting of asking permission of their husband).
Next time you wonder about the ongoing conflict, why we rarely seem to see eye to eye with the Middle Eastern government and why involvement with them takes forever, just think about this law. I am not saying our way is better or worse (OK... I totally am) but still! It is so easy to think different cultures are like us but, more than anything, stuff like this proves they are not. This is definitely not a one-size-fits-all world.
