I have been in the midst of studying for my final BOMA class, Environmental Health and Safety, this last two weeks. To add to that, on Thursday of last week my new manager invited me to participate in a high level sales training class (something I need badly since this is probably my weakest professional aspect). The class was scheduled for today and oh, did I mention that I needed to read a book to prepare for the class in addition to the work I had already planned for the weekend?
Does it sound like I am complaining? Oh, no no no. Don't misunderstand. I am completely in my element in this type of situation. I LOVE the entire process of deciding what needs to be done to complete the course work, slotting time for the necessary preparation in between being mommy, wife, me. Then reading, studying, etc., etc. I love the day of the class / test knowing that I have prepared fully and I love the feeling of satisfaction that comes when I finish the day / hand in my completed test.
If I learned anything by finishing my education while working a "day job," it is that you can accomplish almost anything if you plan effectively. The key is to then follow your plan. That lesson has served me very well these last few years. A close runner up in important time management lessons is that you can only do one thing at a time. Pick the most important thing in that moment, do it and then move on to the next thing. If you just sit and stress about how much you have to do you won't get any of it done. Clearly, I still work on the overall stress part daily. I guess at least I don't "sit and stress." I work and stress.
So on Wednesday I will take this last BOMA class to complete my RPA designation. I am not sure what I am going to do next year to get my "study" fix. Maybe I will take a pottery class. Only if they have study materials though...
