Well, we have officially entered the world of time out. We put Milo in time out for the first time yesterday. We decided a few weeks ago where the "naughty spot" would be but our little guy is usually pretty well behaved so we have not needed it until last night. Milo was banging his sippy-cup on the wall, we asked him not to do it, he did it again, we told him not to do it again... and he did (with a distinct look of challenge on his face). Then he wheeled around and bonked Scratch hard on the nose with his cup. Hello timeout.
I put him in the designated spot and it actually went relatively well. I only had to put him back 4 or 5 times (in a minute and a half). Mostly, I think he was just curious as to why I was sitting him on the floor in the hallway. He did not cry - just looked at me like "Mama, what am I supposed to be doing here?" If nothing else, it distracted him so he didn't go back to hitting things with his cup when he was done. All in all, I would consider our first real foray into discipline a success. Ah, if it could always be that easy...
