Tried... and Failed (Again!)

Since Milo's 12-month well child appointment they have said that we need to wean him from the bottle. He takes 2 bottles a day (notice the use of present tense). Every few months we try to transition him from the bottle to a sippy cup and he refuses to participate. Before we went to San Antonio I decided that he was going to go cold turkey while we were out of town. I just knew that by the time we got back home he would be free and clear - officially a "sippy cup man."

I tried everything. I gave him milk in every type of sippy cup imaginable. I gave it to him warm. I gave it to him cold. I tried to dilute it because I thought maybe it was too thick coming through the sippy cup. I sat with him in my lap like it was a bottle. I even tried giving him chocolate milk - he took that once. Every other time he would take one drink and spit the milk out. Every single time.

So, he went 4 full days with no milk. He ate a ton but he didn't have any milk (oh, except the one sip of chocolate milk). When we got back to town (and his bottles) I thought I would try the bottle again... you know, just to see. Sure enough, he took the whole bottle like a champ.
I figure that I made a valiant effort and Milo has officially had his say. I am not sure he could speak anymore clearly even if he had the words. Back to the bottle it is - at least for another month or so.

Jackson took his bottle until he was two. People ragged on me constantly, but it was what he wanted and it made him so happy. He's five now, and doesn't take a bottle. And no one but me remembers that he had it when he was two. Don't worry, he'll give it up when he's ready! Don't make yourself crazy over it - it's just not worth it!
