Election Day

Today is Election Day. I haven't made a secret of my hopes for how the day will end but I can't help but feel that even if Obama doesn't win, our country is still better for his presence in the political world. He has generated so much HOPE and encouraged interest in people who have not felt like they mattered before. He speaks to the ideals of today's youth - the youth that will eventually grow to control the world. He is of mixed race - giving all people of minority descent inspiration for what they can accomplish in their lives.

I know people say that HOPE isn't enough, but I think that it is a really good start. If Obama does win, he won't be able to work miracles. He is not going to be able to single-handedly fix all of the issues that we face as a country; however, addressing those issues with HOPE and not with fear is a big first step to moving forward.

Regardless of today's outcome, I believe that Obama represents a cultural shift that will continue to grow. He does not see the world in a defined, black & white way. He acknowledges the grey that accompanies all of the major questions of the world and he is willing to ask questions when he does not know an answer. I believe that whatever is meant to happen today will happen. I am simply grateful for the HOPE that Obama has offered and I answer it fervently with my own.
