Milo is officially walking. There is no "almost" about it at this point. Along with walking, he has
found his opinion as well. I am fairly sure that he is teething (he still just has the two teeth in the front) and I think everything together has been the recipe for a moody little man. Please keep in mind that moody for Milo is still nothing to really complain about... It has just been a bit of an adjustment for his Daddy and me. Now that he can get to everything he wants, he becomes that much more upset when things are taken away from him. It is actually kind of funny to watch him try to make himself cry when he is frustrated. He has the sweetest little pout. There have definitely been some real tears thrown in too though. His new thing is arching his back and trying to fling himself toward the ground. Lots of fun.
Milo had his first public temper tantrum yesterday. We were at a garden center with Brad and Milo really wanted to sit on the ground and play with, well OK... eat, the little gravel rocks along the walkways. Obviously I could not allow him to do that as a good mommy so I was trying to hold him and distract him while he was practicing the aforementioned arching and flinging along with quite a bit of crying. Mark, genius dad that he is, came over to see what all of the ruckus was about. When I explained that Milo wanted to play with and eat the rocks Mark bent down, picked up a fist-sized rock and handed it to Milo. He immediately calmed down and played with his rock for the rest of the time we were there. Oh, OK, he might have chewed on it a little bit too. Lessons learned - 1) I need to learn how to start thinking outside of the box and 2) if you are going to let your child chew on rocks at least make sure they are too big to swallow.
One final thing about our sweet boy that we think is pretty funny... he is turning into a huge flirt. Mostly, this is evidenced when we are out at restaurants. He looks around, makes eye contact with any woman in the neighboring vicinity, stares a bit and then rests his head on his arm while peeking at her shyly. If he is really "workin it" he will grin as well. It is all very sweet - and effective! We always get "Oh my goodness, he is soooo cute!," or "Look at those eyes!" or, and we get this a lot, "Look at those curls!" This weekend he was actually making eyes at some lady sitting 20 feet away. From what I hear about his daddy when he was little, I am pretty sure Milo comes by this naturally!
In closing, I was going through some pictures this weekend and found this picture taken in the first few weeks after Milo was born. Look at that little tiny baby! It is hard for me to remember him being so small - of course he wasn't this small for long. He was a chunker by the time he was 6 weeks old. A cute chunker but a chunker nonetheless. I am feeling very sentimental this week. I can't believe my little baby is going to be one year-old this week!
