I don't normally dwell on the amount of time I spend in the car since we pretty much signed up for it when we moved to the suburbs. I work downtown so Milo and I get lots of quiet contemplative time in the car. No biggie.
I also have not generally complained too much about the price of gas - until I redid our budget the other day and realized how much Mark and I are spending on gas each month between the two of us. Holy cow! You do not even want to know.
So, yesterday I had to go visit another building for a work. I went at lunch and realized about 1/2 way there that the building was about 17 miles away from my office - in the direction of my house. Based on my calculations, I used roughly 2 gallons of gas to get there and back for a total of about $8. Had I been thinking, I would have simply gone by the building on the way home or on the way to work. It was a good lesson though. Even though I have no choice regarding most of my driving, I do need to start thinking about those little side trips that can be combined. I mean, seriously, $8 is $8.
