Head on a Stick

Milo has officially been in his band for 2 whole months as of yesterday. The time has flown by! We had his bi-weekly check-up yesterday and we got good news. Let me give you some background first... basically, the babies wear the bands until they outgrown them. There is this soft inner lining that the technician shaves down every two weeks depending on how much the baby's head has grown. Milo's is definitely getting thin in a few areas.

Milo has made such progress but we (the technician, Mark and I) still want him to fill out a little on the left, back side of his head and on his front, right forehead. After Milo's adjustment yesterday Allison, our tech, said the band can take one final adjustment in two weeks. That means our little one will wear the band for four more total weeks which will give these last two areas more time to fill out. Yeah!

Now on to the pictures... I know I have mentioned the "head on a stick" before. This is one of the products from the casting that we did initially. It is a mold of what his head looked like originally so we can accurately compare his current growth. I think the "head on a stick" is funny for some reason. Milo just likes to chew on the stick part.

Milo also gets to wear this cute little stocking cap at his appointments (I think it is funny too... just because it is soooo precious! He looks like a little elf to me.) The stocking tames his hair so we can actually see the shape of his head.

Finally, I will leave you with some funny tidbits from our life with the band. People have really been surprisingly nice about it. We will often get second looks but that has always happened so it is nothing new. We have had two memorable situations though. We went out to eat with Mark's sister Renee a few weeks ago and we had a couple of young waitresses that were both waiting on us. They both separately asked us if the band was to keep him from knocking his head on the ground, wall, table, etc. It made us wonder how many people just totally think we are overprotective parents who don't want our baby to ever bump his head.

The second situation occurred one Sunday when Mark, Milo and I were sitting at an outside table at Chipotle eating dinner. This incredibly sweet older lady walked up and apparently Milo made eye contact with her. She came over and patted him on the head and said "Oh, he is such a sweet baby... You know, I worked with developmentally disabled children for 27 years so I understand what you are going through." Mark and I just laughed and explained to her what the band is for. THAT made us wonder how many people think that AND it made us feel so fortunate that this really is such a minor, short term thing that we are dealing with and not something else. We are so blessed with our sweet little man!
