Milo had been itching to get back onto the sand after our trip to Laguna Beach so the first thing he did when we got to Paradise Point was to head out to build some sandcastles on the beach. Happily, previous guests had left lots of buckets and shovels so sandcastle supplies were plentiful. Mark had to get in on the action too!
After some beach fun and a bath, Milo decided it was time to get in the vacation groove. Ah, his "beet", Roff and Daddy's phone... What more could a little boy ask for?
Of course, the flowers at the resort were just like all the others we saw in California - gorgeous! I have seen Birds of Paradise in office building flower arrangements for years but honestly never thought that they grew naturally, much less in huge bushes.
On our first full morning we went out to explore the resort. We were all in heaven at the coffee cart! Mark got a Chai, I got a latte and Milo set his sights on a ginormous chocolate muffin. He ate and ate...
and ate some more...
while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
The beach was literally 10' from our cabana door. We made great use of our patio the whole time we were there and could not have asked for more beautiful views.
Our goal was to relax on this trip so the zoo was the only big planned event while we were in San Diego. That said, we did make a point to get out and about a bit to enjoy the city. I am telling you, our Garmin GPS was awesome! We drove around wherever we wanted and just had to "go home" when we were ready. I truly love technology!
One of our finds was Balboa Park. It was near the heart of the city and it was beautiful. There was a great play park right there. How could we not stop?
Balboa Park was right up our alley. Lots of Spanish architecture and plenty of those beautiful California flowers. Following Mark's policy that good blog pictures must always have one of us in them, I won't put all the scenic shots up here. It was lovely though! We would highly recommend it. Milo is in this one so it qualifies as blog worthy...
When we got home, this is the view that greeted us... Beautiful (even though we are present in the picture only on the other side of the camera).
We didn't want to waste a minute and since we had finally remembered to get bread on our last night, we went out to feed the resident flock of birds the morning before our flight home.

Milo had been terrorizing the birds during our whole visit so it was nice that they finally got some benefit from his attentions.
We had to get our "I was there" shot before packing our suitcases.
And Milo wanted to build one final sandcastle.
Our little guy sure took to being on vacation. He handled the trip perfectly despite being a little under the weather most of the time we were gone. Hopefully that love of travel will just continue to grow. We are sure going to do everything we can to foster it as he grows up.Here he is sneaking in a few more minutes of relaxation... We were very lenient with his "beet" use during the trip and I think he could sense that was coming to an end. He made the most of that binky while he still could!
Now this is the sign of a successful vacation, is it not? Daddy joined him in his nap which gave Mommy some extra time to read. Yeah! We are all back in the swing of things now but are still enjoying some of that residual vacation feeling. The beauty of the blog is that now we can relive our adventures anytime we want. We will just have to make sure it is not another 4 years before the next trip!
